Chiang Mai Deals - 10 Ways to Eat Cheaper in Thailand's Cultural Center

Known for rock-bottom food expenses, most visitors to Thailand, however, those for food, but in Chiang Mai, only deals on every corner. The more adventurous traveler who seeks an authentic Thai experience or wants to run his travel money go even further, you can often cheaper and tastier alternatives if they know what to look. Many other long-term visitors are amazed when I tell them my favorite places where I get a huge plate of yellow rice, withFried Chicken, a cup of soup, half a cucumber, ice and water for 50 baht (1.43 USD). And that is on one of the westernmost islands in Thailand!

In Chiang Mai, it gets even better. There is no reason why you can not eat a full meal for 30 baht (86 cents) in the city, but I've also managed to hunt places where you can eat a full meal with ice water was added for 10 baht (10 cents ) or noodle soup for 3 baht (9 cents)!

After living here eightand a half months I've come up with these ten tips:

1: Take a Hike --
Forgo the bike or Tuk Tuk first or two days into a new position. Skip the taxi and go. This slows you down and gives you a feel for the place as no motorized traffic still can. The cheap restaurants are often barely noticeable, since they are often in the homes of the people and characters that are raced on the wheel of attention grabbers at walking pace. Whoah - noodle soup for 20 baht! Are you aware of your surroundings andYou know how it is best to use it.

2. Avoid the tourist traps --
This should go without saying, but most people have about the plethora of options in the main tourist hubs dare try to disrupt the action. Even in chaotic Bangkok, has everything to do, is to walk one block each direction, from delicious dishes to Khao San Road for about 30 baht to find and walk full (free water or iced tea included). Have you come to Thailand to eat Thai food orHamburgers and pasta?

3. Do not Judge A Book by ...
Yawn. The age-old adage again ... If you have heard it once ... Ahem. Anyway, although it will ring again. In Thailand, the extra dollar or two in more expensive restaurants usually a reflection of increased decorative rather than increased quality. Conversely, in fact, the vice is sometimes a better rule of thumb. If you pay more, you pay for ambience. This is great if that's what you want, but if you for a better dietlower prices, look for companies with the bare necessities. Plastic furniture that is not fair. The absence of music. An ancient television blaring Thai soap operas. Hokey thrown together decor. Many of these places are just extensions of the home of Thai entrepreneurs and restaurants will have a much closer look at Thai culture.

4. You Just Can not Beat the Streets --
The whole world can be found at open-air street food, and it is usually the best value in a givenRange. This is especially true in Southeast Asia. Sometimes you will be the usual collection of plastic furniture from the front and full service to be found, but often you will only eat a little to get disposable plates or expect a plastic bag. If it is close enough to be finger food, I tell them to save the plastic, and they eat out of hand, but of course it comes on when I eat a piece of grilled chicken or chicken curry.

5. Food at the Food Markets --
Chiang Mai cheapest venuesprovide an amazing culinary adventure, and the markets are a revelation for anyone who has never had the pleasure. Choose your path through the various stalls, sampling new dishes, or press the collection of cheap restaurants on the roadside, which often accompany the traditional markets. My favorite part about the markets, they remain open, and into the early morning hours, so if I am on my way back from a disco, I can stop and refuel. I'll tell you what - it's much better than pulling the late night --Burger King Drive-throughs in America ... The best deals, Chiang Mai is found in the markets.

6. Compare Prices --
Do not be shy to walk into a restaurant, leave surfing the menu, and then. Thais appreciate competition. If you feel guilty, just smile and say, "Pop kan mai (see you again)." Do this on your walks to an understanding of local prices and will see what options you have.

7. Be adventurous --
To try out new things, even if they are frightened. It couldsurprised. Many foods that will seem foreign to the West cheap because they avoid tourists. Also you to rethink your idea of cleanliness. In your home country may mean quite clean, but to Thais, clean is easy to clean. If a lot of people there to eat, you can be sure the food is probably safe. Do not blame me if you get Bangkok belly - it will happen to you if you follow my advice or not. Gastrointestinal problems in Thailand are a rite of every Westerner experiencesbut it is more often the result of bacteria or spices are your body is not used as sanitation issues. Do not worry. :-)

8. When in Rome ...
Ah! Not a cliche ... "Go, go where the locals, this is probably the most important and most overlooked, inexpensive food directive. Many of the local Thais living below 10,000 baht or less per month, and even those with more money of course seek the best food the lowest prices. If I can find to eat at a new locationwith delicious food and sanitation, I just drive around and find a small group of Thais eat outside, but it's even better if you have a friend show you around Chiang Mai, Thailand.

9. Speak Thai --
In Thailand, there is almost always a Thai price and a "Farang" price. No matter how long you stay, this will apply to you and - you will never "to" Thai in any way. However, open to the people and try to speak their language and you can often obtainreduced price or more parts, especially if you are a regular customer. One time at the Chiang Mai aquarium, I got a big discount on admission broke explained after the experiment Thai. "Raakha thourai (how much)?" I repeated that I thought I did not understand. "Speak receive Thai - Thai-price," the girl said with a smile.

10. Edit Menu --
Did you really eat at each meal with meat? I opted instead for a Pad Thai with chicken with vegetable oil once, and itwas crowned as big an omelet, covered the entire vessel up (not exactly a vegetarian, afterall lol) to compensate. The result is one of the best pad Thais I've ever had. Do they offer special dishes of rice for the individual (always a fantastic bargain) served? Sometimes there is no obvious motive price between the different courts, and the reason is a mystery. If you are on a budget, choose wisely. Let's face it, everything is delicious on the menu!

And one more, just for goodAction ...

11: dinner with the Thais --
Although you never intentionally take advantage of this, Thais are among the most generous people in the world. Stumble upon a Thai Party and you will be taken on a chair are force-fed Thai whiskey and good food, even if you no reason, there have to be. Suppose you are full and you're plate is to be refilled again and again. If this happens, DO NOT pay offer, too. It would be an insult, though, if you follow a less affluent ThaisRestaurant you are expected to pay. One night, while waiting to catch the morning boat across the river to Laos, I threw a Teacher's Cub karaoke party and at the end buddying with the headmaster. We lost, sang "Stand by Me" for the crowd, and he invited me to come and stay with his family over a prolonged period. If you are really good with Thais you the pleasure of a delicious Thai House Grill have. Bring a bottle or two of beer. If you are in for the long-term settlement,You can even throw a few of them at the end at your site. Do not worry - there are many places to buy lots of cheap meat and vegetables.

In Chiang Mai, which are deals not get the hard, no matter what kind of trade you are looking for. Even if you prefer fine dining, prestigious clubs, and luxury hotels, you will surely find a value that goes far beyond the money they spend.

Chok Dee khrab!
